New hospital director for Emersons Green and Devizes NHS Treatment Centres
Our Emersons Green and Devizes NHS Treatment Centres have a new hospital director.
Chester Barnes, who for 11 years was hospital director at Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre, has taken on the role to oversee and develop services and quality for patients from Bristol, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, South Wales and beyond.
While at Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre, Chester led his team to achieve two contract renewals with local Care Commissioning Groups, the second of which is for a further eight years. He also played a vital role in the hospital gaining the coveted ‘Outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission, making the hospital the first in the country to achieve this across the five domains of the quality mark.
Under his leadership, Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre has come top in the country for a number of measures, including the Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE) and Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) – the latter seeing the hospital rated best in the country for hip replacements and in the top 5% for knees.
Chester, who lives in Bath and has family in South Wales, has a number of aspirations for both Emersons Green and Devizes NHS Treatment Centres.
He said: “Having run a sister hospital for 11 years I am keen to work with my colleagues to create an environment where people continue to feel empowered to deliver great care. The quality of services delivered by both hospitals is already very good, but I am looking forward to working with our teams to take that to the next level. I am also planning to broaden the scale and scope of the services we offer, so that our excellent care touches more lives.”
Andy Lunt, managing director, Secondary Care, Care UK commented: “Chester has overseen initiatives by which our Shepton Mallet hospital has become one of the best in the country. His commitment to quality and our driving ethos – to put patients at the heart of everything we do – will benefit patients and staff at Emersons Green and Devizes NHS Treatment Centres. I am delighted that he has become hospital director for these two hospitals and I look forward to supporting him with the changes and developments he plans.”
